Flannel shirts - much more than plad work shirts

Especially in autumn and winter flannel shirts are very popular. The reason lies in the special properties of flannel fabric, which it is light, cozy soft, warm and also extraordinarily durable, if properly cared for. Many associate the term flannel shirt with a thick, plaid work shirt for lumberjacks. This type of flannel shirt does exist, of course, but it is only a very specific type. In contrast to this, flannel is also used by premium brands to produce particularly light and yet warm, elegant men's shirts for the winter which can be worn both in leisure and in business.

Flannel shirts - anything but petty!

Flannel shirts are an essential in most men's casual wardrobe. Exeptional comfort, lightweight fabric and an ultra soft finish make the flannel shirt fashionable all-rounder for any occasion. Made from high-quality cotton, you will always benefit from the positive properties of the natural material. Flannel shirts are durable, breathable and protect you from the wind and cold at the same time. The roughened surface and the air chambers thus created between the fibers make the flannel shirt the ideal warm companion, but the flannel shirt can also perfectly complement a summer outfit on cool evenings. For easy-care handling, we recommend the non-iron and easy-iron flannel shirts from our top brands.

A flannel shirt can be styled very differently, depending on your taste. The color palette now extends far beyond the classic red and black check pattern. With closed button placket, especially large plaid flannel shirts in lumberjack style can be casually combined with dark jeans. Add dark sneakers, a black denim jacket with fake-fur applications on the collar and the hip street style look is complete. If you want to be inspired by the cool styles of the West, reach for the trendy men's hat. With a white-blue flannel shirt put over a white basic shirt the exciting Western look can be completely reinterpreted. Of course the sleeves can be rolled up.

What are the advantages of flannel shirts?

Compared to other shirt fabrics, flannel has several advantages. Due to the roughened structure, the flannel fabric stores small air pockets between the yarn fibers. Thus, it insulates the body's own heat and has a pleasant warming effec. The rough structure also creates an increased surface area, which makes flannel shirts particularly thin and light despite the strength of the material, and also ensures a very fast drying ime. Another property of flannel is the great resistance and especially tear resistance.

What is Flannel?

Flannel is a very light fabric made of wool or cotton. When creating flannel shirts, the yarn is first woven in the so-called plain weave (poplin). This weave crosses warp and guard threads alternately over and under each other, creating a uniform, dense fabric. After weaving, the resulting fabric is roughened by brushing. This roughening increases the volume of the flannel fabric and creates small air pockets between the fabric fibers. The resulting flannel fabric is very light due to the air pockets and insulates against cold and heat. That is why the fabric is used for both warm winter falnnel shirts and light summer shirts.

How to wash flannel shirts correctly?

Flanellhemd schwarz

The robust flannel shirts can usually be machine washed at 40 degrees without any problems. However, for the fine flannel fabrics made of 100% long staple cotton of the premium suppliers, we recommend washing flannel shirts at maximum of 30 degrees. It is recommended unless otherwise recommended by manufacturer, by adding flannel-suitable fabric softener to keep the fabric nice and supple. For drying  we recommend air drying. If a dryer is used, it should be run on the lowest setting.

The flannel shirt black because it does not always have to be plaid

When it comes to flannel shirts, many people think of the chekered lumberjack shirt with lining. But far from it, just plain flannel shirts are in vogue. Especially in demand this season is the black flannel shirt. Therefor, for fashionable men with prefrence for black wardrobe and interest in a shirt made of special fabric, we recommend a plain black flannel shirt. The black falnnel shirt can be worn with classic jeans in leisure as well as beige chinos for the office. And those who still do not want to do without the check, of course, can still reach for the black flannel shirt white plaid.
